Tree Damage – What to Expect From my Home Policy

If a tree falls on your house because of a covered peril, your home policy may cover the damage to your home and potentially other structures on your property. In most cases, this would also include damage caused by a neighbor’s tree falling on your property. Depending on your policy, there may also be reimbursement for removal and cleanup.

Your home policy does not cover general tree removal: examples would be if the tree is dangerous, diseased, or dying. Your home policy will cover if the tree falls on your property due to a covered peril and if the fallen tree damages a covered structure or blocks a driveway or handicap access.

Now what would happen if your neighbor’s tree fell on your house?

Your home policy can cover this if it meets requirements. If it appears your neighbor neglected the care of the tree, their home policy may cover the cost of the damages.

If your neighbor’s tree falls in your yard, but doesn’t damage anything, removing the tree would become your responsibility.

Understanding your home coverage is important. Our team is always available to discuss your current coverage and make updates to better protect your home.
