Does Auto Insurance Cover Hail?

In most cases if you have Comprehensive coverage, hail damage will be covered. Comprehensive coverage is also referred to as ‘other than collision’ coverage and is available on our Personal Auto Policy.

What does other than collision (Comprehensive) cover?

Other than collision coverage provides payment for loss or damage to a covered auto from any cause except collision with another vehicle, object or the roadbed, or upset, subject to exclusions.

The following causes of loss are considered other than collision:

  • Missiles or falling objects;
  • Fire
  • Theft or larceny;
  • Explosion or earthquake
  • Windstorm;
  • Hail, flood or water;
  • Malicious mischief or vandalism;
  • Riot or civil commotion;
  • Contact with bird or animal;
  • Breakage of glass;
    • If breakage of glass is caused by collision, it can be considered a loss caused by collision.
  • Operation of car wash equipment
